One for mum, one for dad and one for the country

I came across an amazing picture book for the bargain price of $7.95 from a large bookstore chain which I do not visit often. It reminded me of Animalia as I flipped through each enchanting page which included a short poem and a colourful illustration of an animal or insect beginning with the next letter in the alphabet. Beautiful. And, akin to Animalia, at the end you are given reasons to go back and read it again to find things you may have missed the first time. If I had to compare though, I still hold Animalia closer to my heart.

I liked it so much I bought 3. Well, the government is telling us to spend to keep people in jobs after all.

Strathewen

Photo of Strathewen taken by Tim Young for "The Age"

I had never heard of the town, Strathewen, before today. Tim, a friend of mine, is a journalist for The Age who had the opportunity to visit the north Victorian town where of its 210 residents, 30 people died in the worst bushfire Victoria has ever seen. This is what he reported:

Strathewen is only one of many townships affected by the blaze in Victoria.
